Northrop Grumman

The development of a bomb disposal robot which was able to manoeuvre itself with the utmost accuracy lead Northrop Grumman to commission Scotland Electronics to develop the required motion control system for this new generation bomb disposal vehicle.

This 6 wheeled vehicle was required to be stable in a diverse set of environments. The capability to operate in the country over challenging terrain, to the more urban requirement to cross railway lines and traverse upstairs in buildings, was a particular challenge for the Scotland Electronics engineering team. The level of flexibility and controllability needed the robot to have all 6 wheels independently controlled through a CANBus system. All tests that the customer has put the vehicle through has vindicated their decision to use Scotland Electronics as their Motion Control partners.
